Software Announcement: Astro 0.1

Post by mikestar13 »

Astro 0.1 is the first release of my crude yet sophisticated Sidereal Astrology program. Not too visually impressive, it prints square chart "wheel" and uses two letter abbreviations instead of glyphs. But just check out all the information in a single text file:
  • Ecliptic and Mundane positions in the same wheel - no need for a separate mundoscope.
  • Detailed planetary data: latitude, speed, RA, declination, azimuth, altitude, and prime vertical position.
  • Foreground/Background indication with strength indication.
  • Aspects organized by class 1, 2, and 3 per Jim Eshelman.
  • Aspect orb to one minute accuracy, with % strength indication.
  • Mundane aspects
  • Manages a chart collection.
  • Easy to correct data, recalculates almost instantly.
  • Calculations performed by the Swiss Ephemeris, which powers astro.com, Solar Fire, and Janus.
This version only casts natal and event charts, but future versions will include transits, return charts and ingresses, progressions (including PSSR), directions, chart comparison/synastry, and user options.

Astro is a love gift to the solunars community. Released under the AGPL open source license with source code included. Programmed in Python (version 3.9), but doesn't need Python installed to run. Just download the file below, double-click, follow the very simple prompts, and start casting charts.
Many thanks to Jim for design suggestions.

Birthed August 30, 2021, 12:01 AM PDT, Upland, CA with Jupiter near MC (the program tells me it's 3°18' from MC). Strongest aspect is Moon square Sun - correctly identified and scores a mundane aspect. There's a lot happening here for a 0.1 version program!

The aspect display and strength ratings are utterly cool!

To everyone on the site: I strongly encourage everyone to install this and start playing with it. Your feedback will help the process. (At this early stage, there will be bugs - all software has bugs and this one is not even up to version 1.0 - and Mike will fix them, as he's already started to do.)

Mike, this is a game changer. I'm sure you're well aware of that, but it bears repeating. Congratulations, and thank you!

I'll try to play around with the software as time allows, and if I come up with any feedback that could be worthwhile, I'll provide it.
