Southern California Earthquake +Tropical Storm

Post by Jim Eshelman »

August 20, 2023, 2:41:01 PM PDT, near Ojai, CA 34N24'50'' 119W11'00"

Along with the tropical storm moving through Southern California (no problem here at the moment btw, just a lot of heavy rain this afternoon), I just got an earthquake alert for a 6.0 nearby. I'm waiting until I can get official information.

A report from the San Francisco Chronicle says a 6.0 quake was "followed by more than 60 aftershocks" including one at 5.2. I do see on USGC a 5.0 in Ojai an hour or so ago, but I suspect that's not it.

2:56 PM: Looks like it wasn't 6.0, despite the blaring alarm I got, but was a 5.1. (Or that info is still not yet come in despite the SF Chronicle article.) I've given the current data above.

Quite a setup at the time of the quake: Mercury conjunct Mars at MC opposite Neptune on IC.

The oceans are warming. We've known since the Carter administration this would happen if we didn't commit everything to climate correction.

Warmer waters spawn more hurricanes. That's why they happen (in each hemisphere) mostly in the summer months. Historically, the eastern Pacific Ocean has been too cool for this. Not anymore, though.

I know this: This summer in Bama has been the worst summer ever as far as weather, many storms with torrential down pours with wind and abnormal hot temps, damage to my property and house.
