WISH LIST - "Burst" of all or multiple predictive techniques

Post by Jim Eshelman »

Right now, TMSA only calculates solar and lunar returns (and their demis and quartis) - and a few other predictive charts if you know the trick. Mike has indicated he will be adding all the other main return charts that have been proposed over time (in addition to progressions and directions, including various quotidians).

I think there needs to be a way where one can configure (what I've been calling in my head) a "burst table," in which you mark which techniques you want in your "predictive chart burst." It should be easily changeable (probably check boxes for each technique). Most people would settle on a small number of things to routinely use, but a very large list could be valuable especially for research. I can think of three kinds of use, off the top of my head:
  • When studying a known past event or a future specific moment in time, generate all desired predictive charts at once.
  • Similar but different: To get everything currently operative for a person.
  • For research, it makes feasible such projects as my wish to compare more or less every return chart ever proposed for a large collection of data.
The ability to pull up a chart, add data of an event, then push one button and get every all the return charts selected at once - then copy off the PVLs or angularity strength figures to populate a spreadsheet - is quite exciting. But, almost is exciting is the chance to decide what (say) six things I always want to check for an event or date and have them come up at once.

When the transit and progression modules are complete, this will be quite doable, indeed I may well build infrastructure for it concurrent with the transit module. I would have similarly styled pages for natal and mundane astrology, with techniques used selected by checkbox options, and saved in configuration files for reuse. There is no reason a user will be unable to use as many techniques as desired on a single time.

I doubt anyone will want them all, but I could envision all applicable SSRs (including demis and quartis), SLRs, KLRs, KSRs and enneads, along with all aplicable transits, progressions, and directions. These could indeed include lunisolars and solilunars and any luminary transit chart, the Swiss ephemeris is quite good at calculating them. Precise timing of non-luminary planet to planet transits is less reliable, especially for the slow moving planets. I would reasonably trust Mars returns but question the accuracy of Saturn returns.

Quite understandably! At its fastest, Saturn moves, what, maybe 7' a day? That's good enough to get it to the nearest minute of time, but that's not usual. My wife was born with Saturn travelling 23" a day: If transiting Saturn were that speed, you could get time to almost the nearest HOUR.
