And for Jupiter in Leo, what has happened throughout the past year that could be traced to this placement?
As for gold, I believe gold prices were considerably low last year and that gold/jewellery purchases came to a notable high — in India, I believe.

Gold prices have been observed on different Saturn cycles to go up when Saturn is in Leo. Remember that prices are (most simply) a reflection of supply and demand, i.e., Saturn shows areas of acute shortage, and prices go up. If you're right about gold prices this last year, then that's consistent with what I'd theorize about Jupiter in Leo: There's a sense that it's plentiful, so prices stay where they are or go down.

Here are the dates of Jupiter's last several passes through Virgo. These might be interesting for several reasons, one of which is that Jupiter tends to be in the same sign for every third U.S. presidential election (it takes almost exactly 12 years to go around the zodiac), and for some of these placements there are discernible patterns. Can we see any in these?

However, there are so many Virgo themes that are doing quite poorly right now. I speak of themes that I've observed being part of Sidereal Virgo, as well as "borderline" themes that don't show much for Virgo in natal astrology but are perennial mundane astrology Virgo themes. An example of the latter is health - the healthcare system was the first thing the new Congress attacked on its installation. Another theme (one that has been shown responsive to outer planet transits in the past) is women (cross-wired to women's health and women in the workplace) - consider how Pluto's entrance into Virgo in 1968-69 marked a new wave of more radicalized feminism with especial focus on these related themes of work and health. (Abortion was legalized in '73.)

All of these are topics that are under assault, not being support4ed, encouraged, or flourishing at all. Other Virgo themes, more specific than "work" in general, are the service industry and labor unions. These, also, are not extremely healthy and are about to be under more pointed attack in the months ahead (based on non-astrological projection of themes and directions).

Another proven Virgo theme (at least in natal astrology) social welfare Again, this is a theme that is facing a possible death sentence (or at least long incarceration).

I don't know if technology is doing any better than we'd normally expect (technology is always on a forward march), or that aviation / avionics / flight technology is doing especially well or poorly.

Certainly quality oration has been punished and losing in the recent past, in favor of tweets. (OK, it might be pro-Virgo that Twitter is getting so much high level press <g>.)

I'll look at some other keywords, but these are the mundane astrology fallbacks.

BTW, La La Land is one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. (This is a strong year at the movies.) You'd have to not like musicals to not like it. Besides the strong romantic element, it's a powerful story of following a dream, conquering obstacles, and diverse kinds of heartbreak. I knew it would sweep the Globes, and I'm wondering if it could overcome the resistance to musicals that is usual at the Academy Awards. I know Academy voters that are really wanting something to make them feel good about the world right now, and this movie easily does that!
